Pelosi and Frank: Voices of Reason

Today, we heard our beleaguered Defense Secretary with the tired old Nazi imagery. Apparently, exercising oversight of the Administration is akin to capitulating to Hitler. I could speak at length about this, but the Democratic Leader's response to this covers it all:

For him to now lecture on moral clarity is a fresh embarrassment to the nation. His comments offer additional evidence that the end of his tenure as Secretary of Defense can not come soon enough.

Another leader from our party also spoke out today. This was Barney Frank, Member of Congress from Massachusetts, and ranking Democrat on the Financial Services Committee. Congressman Frank takes the Republicans to task for abandoning the real war on terrorism, the one in Afghanistan. Here is a snippet of his commentary:

During the years after World War II, academics popularized the concept of the "big lie." This is a technique successfully used by some European regimes to manipulate the public perception of reality. It turned out that if enough people in official positions simply repeated things that were not true, and found elements in the media ready to reinforce them, lies would be believed and truths forgotten.

This approach surfaced in Vice President Dick Cheney's assertion that the defeat of Senator Joseph Lieberman in Connecticut's Democratic primary, largely but not entirely because of his support for the Iraq war, demonstrated that Democrats were unwilling to use appropriate force against terrorism.

There isn't a bigger lie than the Administration's claims to have charted the only response to terrorism. Barney Frank's full op-ed is very thoughtful and well-reasoned response to this. I highly recommend it.

We live in an era of Orwellian double speak, where words are used to convey opposite or confusing images...for example Osamabinladensaddamhussein...notice how those who abuse rhetoric blend or confuse images in order to convey confusing sound bites to the populace at large, but more importantly, to give something their dimwitted followers can hang their motivational delusions. The media remains complicit in this exercise and the three major networks are mouthpieces for a regime that continues to lie, obfuscate, misdirect and abuse the Constitution of the United States. The fact that Bush continues to get air time from networks he's snubbed for most of his regime speaks to the lapdog nature and the total abdication of responsible journalism by the media. Thank goodness for blogging. At least those who have a legitimate voice, e.g. Congressman Conyers, can get a message out that isn't screened through Rovian filters and sent through the media's salad shooter.

Each time that a proxy for Dick Cheney prattles about the real war on terror, I'd like to bring up Bush's #1 vow to capture bin Laden dead or alive.

Are we there yet, Mr. Rumsfeld?

Ohio to Delay Destruction of Presidential Ballots
By IAN URBINA

With paper ballots from the 2004 presidential election in Ohio scheduled to be destroyed next week, the secretary of state in Columbus, under pressure from critics, said yesterday that he would move to delay the destruction at least for several months.

Since the election, questions have been raised about how votes were tallied in Ohio, a battleground state that helped deliver the election to President Bush over Senator John Kerry.

The critics, including an independent candidate for governor and a team of statisticians and lawyers, say preliminary results from their ballot inspections show signs of more widespread irregularities than previously known.

The critics say the ballots should be saved pending an investigation. They also say the secretary of state’s proposal to delay the destruction does not go far enough, and they intend to sue to preserve the ballots.

In Florida in 2003, historians and lawyers persuaded state officials not to destroy the ballots in the 2000 presidential election, and those ballots are stored at the state archive.

Lawyers for J. Kenneth Blackwell, the Ohio secretary of state, said although he did not have the authority to preserve the ballots, Mr. Blackwell would issue an order in a day or two that delays the destruction and that reminds local elections officials that they have to consult the public records commissions in each county.

As we dig, assemble, and amend, we are proud to now have posted our first cut at the election 2006 quick look web page.

All this data is not easy to come by, but slowly it is beginning to take shape.

Each district has a hot link to each candidate's campaign website.

Our risk ratings for each district for election fraud will be up soon! The current criteria used for assessments are:

1. % Touchscreen DRE's
2. Party in control of the state's Board of Elections
3. % of minorities in the district
4. State Awareness of Touchscreen DRE Problems and Preventive Measures (SATDPPM) is a subjective evaluation based upon overall public and government official awareness of electronic voting machines. (ie New Mexico 10, OH 1 or 2)
5. An verifiable and recountable paper trail.

My thanks go to everyone who is making this effort possible.

#5 Reed...GREAT effort to identify where the potential voting tabulation irregularities might occur in November...Congressman Conyers, how can this yeoman effort translate into a Congressional exercise that will ensure that every vote is counted and when necessary, recounts legitimated by a paper trail and not represent some hacker's opportunity to send legitimate votes to buffer heaven?
