Congressman Conyers Honored

I just wanted to pass along a story from the Detroit News about a humanitarian award bestowed upon Congressman Conyers this afternoon.

A couple other interesting stories today include a Buffalo News article picking up the call for impeachment. AP is also covering our call for an special counsel investigation into the NSA wireless wiretap issue.

And lastly, the Harpers Magazine cover story article, The Case for Impeachment, is now online.

Keeping BushCo's misdeeds out in the light through the media is one of the stronger means to topple the regime. Congressman Conyers is the man with the flashlight.

"President Bush, center, speaks with members of the National Governors Association in the White House on Monday. Republican governors worry that administration fumbles will hurt the party in an election year."

May their fears become reality!

Congratulations, Congressman Conyers. You are my hero. A more than well-deserved honor.

Update on the Patriot Act for those who are not on the previous thread where I posted this.

Sen. Mitch McConnell (I misspelled his name on the prev. post) made a motion and it was passed. I think I caught it correctly -

The Patriot Act will be continued in discussion tomorrow (Tuesday) after morning business.

At 2:30 pm tomorrow (Tuesday) there will be a vote on cloture.

Following the vote on cloture (which I guess Mr. McConnell thinks will pass???), on Wednesday a vote on the passage of the Patriot Act bill. I didn't hear if there was a time for that vote.

I heard that at C-SPAN2 shortly after 5:00 pm.

No one is more deserving of this than you. Although I live in NY everyone I know, knows of you. You are truly a hero in my book. Thank you for all you do.

Thank you Congressman Conyers! You are indefatigable in fighting the decades of corruption.

Attention: Requires Immediate Action

The Patriot Act extension expires on Mar 10th. Now they want to shove cloture through on Feb 28th, literally ending debate and therefore allowing a vote to be held on Mar 1st!

They are playing us for Charlie Brown. Lucy says, "OK, go ahead and kick the ball." Then Ooops, she pulls the ball away unsuspectingly at the last second.

Charlie Brown never learns. But we can see the play; a feint (the Feb 9th Senate compromise), then a two pronged attack, a cloture vote on the Original Patriot Act II devoid of the agreed upon amendments and the sneaky port sale deal, cooked up to generate profits for cronies and distract the media from this heinous bill.

Both of these deals are dangerous to interests of America.

I encourage everyone email their Senators and local papers tonight. Cloture vote will occur tomorrow. If this bill is not stopped as is, very soon there will be a Uniformed Federal Police exempt from congressional oversight. They will report only to Chertoff.

Reed,
Thanks for laying out those points. It made the emails to my Senators much more detailed and organized. I wish I would have had those points in front of me when I made my calls to them. Thanks Again.

Permanent police force supervised solely by Homeland Security.

From my understanding, I think members of Congress who approve of this version of the Patriot Act would be in violation of the Constitution.

What an ugly shame that this isn't being reported in every media outlet in this country.

I'm soooo grateful for this forum!

Excellent to see your efforts finally being recognized. You represent "We the American People" and that scares the hell out of the corrupt nazi terrorists running our government. Impeachment/ousting/arrest is way past due for oh, so many. To be followed by some hellacious jail time. What is everyone waiting on, how many crimes? I thought it only took ONE. They've got almost a combined freaking dozen under their belts! Unbelievable.

Sorry, got going again. Back to a very heartfelt thank you to you, Sir, for your inspiration to us all and your tireless efforts. There will be a special chapter dedicated to you in the history books.
